What are some factors that can help ensure success?
Continuing education is one of the most critical steps for young mothers. While balancing school and motherhood can be challenging, many programs and initiatives exist to help. Everything from online classes, to GED preparation, to community college programs can help a young mom build a strong foundation for her future. At Harmony, several of our young moms have gone on to earn high school and college degrees while balancing their education with motherhood. We are proud of their accomplishments!
Building a Strong Support Network
A robust support network is essential for success. This network can include family, friends, mentors, and community resources. Every patient at Harmony is given a list of resources to help build her support network. For many, Harmony is a lynchpin of their ongoing support.
Accessing Healthcare
Many of Harmony’s patients come from underserved or economically disadvantaged communities. We know that maintaining good health is vital for both mother and baby. Access to comprehensive healthcare can significantly impact a mom’s well-being and the health of her child. Because Harmony’s patients usually visit us early in their pregnancy, we are able to connect them with prenatal care providers, support resources, mental health referrals, and even postnatal support like lactation consultants or in-home nursing care.
